2025 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid Review
Our Verdict
The 2025 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid is a three-row SUV with a quiet, efficient electric drive and standard AWD, but the third row is small and the price is on the higher side.

The 2025 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid is a smaller three-row SUV that blends everyday electric driving with family-focused utility. It offers up to 32 miles of all-electric range—perfect for local errands—plus standard all-wheel drive and seating for six.
With a sleek, tech-filled cabin and Kia’s advanced safety features, it’s ideal for families who want efficiency without going full EV. You get the familiar Sorento experience, just with a plug and an impressive 74 MPGe in combined driving.
The new EX is Kia’s entry-level PHEV trim, but it’s packed with features that make it feel far from basic. It comes standard with a 261-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, all-wheel drive, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Inside, you get synthetic leather seats, heated fronts, and a full suite of advanced safety tech. Perks like a power liftgate, keyless entry, and tri-zone climate control add to its value.
The SX-Prestige (SX-P) is the top Sorento PHEV trim, offering a luxury-like experience. It features genuine leather seats, ventilated front seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a panoramic curved display. A premium 12-speaker Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting elevate the cabin. It also adds Highway Driving Assist 2, a 360º camera, front parking sensors, exclusive 19-inch wheels, and satin chrome accents for a refined finish.
Refreshed styling with distinctive LED "Star Map" lighting makes it stand out while remaining family-friendly. Subtle hybrid badges, practical roof rails, and clean lines keep it attractive yet versatile. Standard 19-inch alloy wheels and new color choices offer personalization without going overboard.
Step inside the Sorento PHEV and you’re greeted by a well-appointed, tech-focused interior that feels a class above what you might expect in a Kia. The battery is tucked under the floor, so it doesn’t steal any cargo volume, you get the same storage as the regular Sorento (about 38.5 cu ft with the third row down).
Even the base EX includes Kia’s Drive Wise suite: forward collision avoidance with junction turn assist, lane-keeping and lane-following assists, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and smart cruise control with stop-and-go. The SX-Prestige adds Highway Driving Assist 2, a 360° Surround View Monitor, and front parking sensors.
With regular charging, you can drive up to 32 miles on electricity alone. Once the battery is depleted, the Sorento PHEV still gets about 34 mpg combined—matching the regular hybrid’s efficiency without sacrificing long-trip mileage.
Kia has been on a tech roll, and the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid benefits from that in a big way. The cockpit is dominated by modern screens and connectivity. Every Sorento PHEV comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s bright, responsive, and feature-rich. Kia also includes UVO link connected services, so you can do things like remote start the car or check charge status from a smartphone app – great for warming up the SUV on a cold morning while it’s still plugged in.
Behind the wheel, the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid proves to be a comfortable and confidence-inspiring drive. Kia chose a traditional 6-speed automatic transmission (instead of a CVT) for a more natural feel. As a result, acceleration is brisk but not sport-sedan fast. 0 to 60 mph takes around 7.5–8 seconds. That’s perfectly fine for merging onto highways and passing slower traffic; the Sorento PHEV never feels underpowered or labored. In fact, from the driver’s seat it feels fairly lively thanks to the immediate electric torque at low speeds.
